A Jesmonite Factsheet
Origins
1. Jesmonite is invented in the UK back in 1984 by Peter Hawkins and only made popular in recent years due to its incredibly versatility.
Composition
2. Jesmonite is a strong composite material created from 2 main components - a non-toxic and non-hazardous mineral powder base (hydrated calcium sulphate) that naturally occurs within sedimentary rocks, combined with a water-based eco-resin, which when solidified gives a product strength.
Eco-friendly
3. The raw mineral powder base is a naturally occurring material that can be found in abundance, sourced sustainably and a much greener alternative to fiberglass and concrete. Eco-resin is also non-toxic and water-based, it does not release toxic chemicals into our environment or directly affect health.
4. In Klaistudios, we also emphasise the importance of reducing waste. Therefore, we also embark on upcycling projects whenever possible to repurpose scrap materials (i.e. our fabric bookmarks)
