Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is the only sizeable patch of primary rainforest left in Singapore. It was gazetted as a Forest Reserve in 1886.
Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is composed primarily of granite. The quarries were closed in 1982 when the granite was exhausted. The reserve is home to several mature trees which are protected by the National Park Board. It still reveal surprising secrets today despite its small size. The whole reserve has an estimated 900 species of flowering plants and nearly 100 species of ferns.
